By the end of the unit, they will be able to understand muscle function in strength and conditioning, understand. Training responses of the body to S&C training, understand S&C training techniques, prepare and carry out a strength and conditioning session, and evaluate their session.
In Year 11 students will complete a unit focussing on developing sporting skills and tactical awareness. They will understand the technical skills for a chosen sport, know how to assess technical and tactical skills for sport and know how to use goal setting to improve their own performance.
Each student will create a portfolio of evidence for each of the units, including witness statements, worksheets, assignments/projects/reports, record of professional discussion, record of oral and written questioning.
Students have two hours a week to complete this over the 3 years at school. In addition to this they will be expected to participate in extra curricular clubs both inside and outside of school, to support in underpinning this knowledge. Trips to BU and AFCB should help to put some of the theoretical knowledge into a practical setting.
Impact
It is expected that students who complete the NCFE course at LeAF Studio will develop and endorse their skillset in the vocational world of sport to best prepare them for a professional career in the sports industry. Students who complete the course successfully are well prepared for further courses in BTEC Sport / A level PE. Study for the NCFE will enable our dual career athletes to have a greater understanding of their own sporting performance and ways to improve for the future.
