Key Stage 4 Appeals Information
Parents/Carers have the right of appeal against the admission decision to an independent appeal panel. This is known as a ‘school admission appeal’ and is governed by the Department for Education (DfE).
The deadline for lodging an appeal is at least 20 school days from date of notice that the application was unsuccessful. Appeals lodged after these dates will be heard within 40 school days of the appeal deadline or 30 school days of being lodged, whichever is the later date.
To lodge an appeal please complete the online Appeals Form. If you require a paper copy of the form, please contact: office@lss.weareauthentic.education
Completed appeal forms for the Year 9 September 2025 intake must be received by LEAF Studio by the 15th April 2025 at 4pm. The appeals will be heard in June 2023 in private, by an Independent Appeal Panel. The Clerk to the Appeal Panel will make an appointment within a reasonable time and appeals may be made in English or the Parents’/Carers’ first language.
Only one appeal per application is allowed.
The Appeal Hearing
Appeals are conducted in person, and you may bring a friend unless you opt for the appeal to be heard in your absence.
LEAF Studio will arrange for an Independent Appeals Panel to consider their reasons for refusal and your reasons for wanting to attend LEAF Studio.
The Panel will consider the case put forward by both parties and must consider the admission arrangements for the LEAF Studio and the reasons why you want to attend that particular school. The Panel must exercise its discretion by balancing the weight of your argument (for wanting to attend) against the LEAF Studios reasons for refusal i.e. the prejudice that one more student would cause to the education of the students already offered and the Health and Safety of all the students already attending the Academy, also taking into account the Academy's published admission arrangements.
Following the hearing, decision letters will be sent, where possible, within 5 school days of the end of the hearing. During busy periods, such as main entry, full decision letters may take longer than this, so the Clerk will send a brief decision summary email in the interim.
The decision of the Independent Appeals Panel is binding on the admissions authority and the Parents.
Further details can be found in the Admissions Appeals Timetable 2025.pdf
